Laminate Your Id Card for Longer Use

Although most ID cards today are given out in plastic, there are still situations where you receive a paper card. As an example, you might receive a paper library card, an insurance card or a social security card in paper. Generally this is a card that will be shown often and as it is used, the edges of it begin to break down.

If you work in an organization that still uses paper ID cards it is a good idea to laminate them. Each time a person uses the card they are getting fingerprints and smudges on it. Paper cards also fade after awhile with a lot of use and these cards may have to be exchanged for new ones.

When you laminate the card, it can withstand abuse and over use so that your employees, students or club members can hold onto their cards for a longer time. This will save you money in the long run because you won't have to replace cards so often.

Instead of trying to laminate cards by hand using plastic shelf liner, it is better to purchase a laminating machine. The purpose of this machine is to laminate your paper quickly and easily. In the old days you could not get the paper straight and it would crinkle in spots which could not be straightened out.

A laminating machine eliminates these problems because you take the paper, put it into a plastic sleeve, and move it through the laminating machine; the machine does the rest. Also the machine takes less time than if you were doing this by hand.

A laminating machine will also produce a better copy and you will eliminate waste. The other reason to use a laminating machine is that the ID card will look professionally done. The card holder will enjoy the benefits of being able to clearly see the picture and the information on the card.

Laminating machines do use heat though because that is what seals the plastic.  So you will want to make sure children are protected from this machine. A laminating machine is very inexpensive as well and you can use it for hobby projects or for your business.

When looking at machines know your needs. These machines are practical for the smaller projects. Most will allow you to laminate widths up to 12" or 17" so if you need something wider, you might want to consider a professional laminating machine.

Consider that an ID card laminator can also do a variety of tasks. If you need a document that needs to be used a lot like a flyer for a bulletin board, a handout that you will pass around a lot in a workshop or brochure copy that you want to show as an example, it is a good idea to laminate these so they will have a longer life.
